When a mummy was being made
the body was dried out in a special salt called Natron. Once it
was really dry it was wrapped in layers of bandages.
The fingers and toes were
wrapped first. Sometimes the finger nails were tied on with gold
wire to stop them falling off later. After the hands were wrapped
the arms were bandaged as well, before the whole body was covered
in wrappings.
