Sven

The amount of colour remaining in parts of Kom-Ombo is incredible. This part of a pillar gives a very good idea of how brightly painted the stonework would have been.

The temple at Kom-Ombo is really interesting, and there is quite a lot there for the discerning Ostrich traveler to see. Although a lot of the complex is missing the pillars of the Hypostyle Hall give a good idea of how grand this temple would have been back when it was in use.

Kom-Ombo dates from quite late in Ancient Egyptian history and Sven was amazed by the quality of the carvings which the builders decorated the walls with. It must have taken ages to decorate this one wall. Notice that the decoration stands out from it and is not carved inwards.
All the excitement of exploring takes it's toll on Sven and he often tries to find a quiet corner for a little sleep. Remembering his nap in a clay coffin when he visited Crete Sven couldn't resist a rest in this cool cartouche shaped sarcophagus.
