Sven

Fingers in ears, Sven Amongst the restored places to visit, the Casemate Gun at Fort Hommet is one of the most impressive. As well as having an original 10.5cm gun in position, it also has the associated Crews quarters, ammunition room and ventilation plant looking the same as they did during the Occupation.

There are concrete buildings more or less all the way round the shoreline of the island. The small structure on top of the cliff is 'Battery Dolliman', which used to house 4 large guns. It is another site on the Island which is presently being restored. Nice bunker

L'Angle tower Perhaps the most impressive of the German towers is at L'Angle on the south coast of Guernsey. This was intended to control a large battery of guns which was never installed.

Commanding views

The tower is unrestored, but unlike the others on the Island it is not locked, so the enterprising explorer can go inside it and climb up the stairs to the top level. There's no glass in the windows though, so there are some REALLY big puddles to get through, and it's quite dark in places.

Sven thinks if you visit you should take a torch and some waterproof shoes, or do what he does and get someone to carry you.

Close up, it's B-I-G !!!

Don't think much of the view Apparently on a nice day the view is really good. Pity it wasn't a nice day really.

The entire headland where the Dolliman battery is located was a maze of trenches and machine gun posts, like the one Sven found. The network of trenches and the large gun emplacement here is also presently being restored. A bit over the top, Sven
